Succession planning is more than a will. Here's the rest of it.
A will tells your family what you want to happen. A succession plan makes sure it actually can.
Most South African business owners think they have a succession plan because they have an up-to-date will. They don't. A will is one document in a much larger structure that needs to work together: shareholder agreements, buy-sell funding, trusts, estate liquidity, key-person cover, and the operational handover plan that says who will actually run the thing on Monday morning.
We work through six layers with every owner: personal estate, business continuity, liquidity, tax structuring, family governance, and operational handover. Skip any one of those, and the others wobble.
